Off the Shoulder is Off the Charts

Changes in the fashion world can stem from the idea of "shifting erogenous zones", keeping ourselves interested in the body through the altering patterns of how and what we decide to cover when wearing clothes. Lately, a focal point in a lot of rising fashion is showing off shoulder and collarbone. This has translated into the booming trend of off the shoulder sweaters.

One of the first things that comes to mind when I think of this trend, is seeing Regina George standing over all her peers as chaos erupts at her high school. You know, the scene where she wears the black, off the shoulder top, specifically the same one she wears before she gets hit by a bus. Whether you have seen this trend in movies like Mean Girls, the red carpet, or on store mannequins, this flexible silhouette highlights the neck, giving wearers the opportunity to strongly accessorize around the collar.

With trend cycles meaning trends constantly coming and going, this neckline reappears as a 2010s trend that's making its way back into the scene, through a variety of mediums. The popularity of comfy and casual loungewear embrace the off the shoulder sweater variations, but this neckline also has been embraced in more formal occasions as well.
